Apologies in advance for the lack of posts and this very short Science Sunday post this week. I’ve been insanely busy and stressed what with Passover beginning tomorrow and some bad news earlier in the week (see my previous post). Hopefully I can get back into the swing of normal things soon.
Science Sunday this week is going to be abridged. I read an interesting article earlier in the week called Look for Cancer, and Find It, from the New York Times blog on April 7th. It talks about the possibility that some women are receiving diagnoses of breast cancer when in reality, if left alone their cancers would never pose real problems to their health. This article takes a critical eye to the problems there are with mammography, and admits that there currently is not a solution to the problem. This issue has been in the news a lot in recent years, and certainly requires more investigation to determine the best way to deal with this increase in breast cancer diagnoses, to prevent unnecessary treatment being given, while still protecting and helping the women who do need chemotherapy/radiation/surgery.
Hope everyone had a good Sunday; and hopefully I can relax a bit soon!
